Sight reading is an elusive skill for many classical guitarists and I happen to have devoted several years to studying it! In this session I take an in-depth look at the process and hopefully inspire you to take some action!
Mentioned in the podcast:
A fascinating podcast, Simon. Thanks. Your imperishable advice about practising everything SLOWLY has had an unexpected knock-on benefit for my sight reading. I now see that when I play too fast, I tend to stop reading the score, and rely on memory instead. Slowing down has changed all that. I can feel reading and playing becoming part of a single, coherent process now, instead of two separate, competing activities. A simple lesson, but an invaluable one…
Oh, and felicitations to you both!
I always get a lot of stimulation from your podcasts and the sight reading one is no exception. Congratulations and wishing you both every happiness and much bliss!
I’m trying to get to the practice pass site but I haven’t found a link to learn a bit more and to register. The practicepass.com site eventually takes me to classical guitar corner but I can’t find anything there on practicepass. I will keep trying. Thanks as always for all of your great work.
