Classical Guitar Duets

Learning to play classical guitar duets opens up a whole new world of music. There is so much music that is simply not possible solo, but works really well with two guitars. It can also be quite rewarding to play music with another person. The interplay and dialogue of music really comes to life when you have to share a musical line with someone else.

But many guitarists simply don’t know that much duet music. How do you find good guitar duet music that also works for your level and playing ability? The truth is there’s quite a lot of duet music if you know where to look!

In the video below, we perform 24 classical guitar duets. The great part of all of this music is that it is quite diverse. There’s music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras, and even music from contemporary composers. And this is just for music in Grades 1-4, roughly from beginner to intermediate. You can find guitar duet music at all levels and in different styles.

Graded Duets for Classical Guitar

And all of this music comes from our book Graded Duets for Classical Guitar: Grades 1-8. The book includes arrangements of music originally written for other instruments, transcriptions of early music written for the lute, and new compositions. We were lucky to have brand new compositions written just for this book by contemporary guitar composers.

Grade Duets for Classical Guitar book

This book contains 45 duets structured into eight grades of progressive difficulty. We have chosen these pieces for their musical and educational qualities so that you can focus on playing music that is suited to your level of ability. The difficulty levels vary between parts 1 and 2 in some pieces, and each part is assigned a grade level in the contents of this book. There is enough variety to bring together teachers and students, guitarists of similar ability, and guitarists of diverse ability.
