In the first of two parts, Gary Lee, master luthier, talks about guitar construction with insights into the different woods used in guitar building and how they influence the sound of our instruments. I learned a lot from hearing what Gary had to say and I am sure you will too!
Visit Gary’s site and learn more about his instruments at:
Great podcast. One often hears about the characteristics of spruce vs. cedar but hearing a luthier on the subject is especially interesting. If I can add a question for the next podcast – what is Gary Lee’s opinion on string length, e.g. 64 cm or less vs. 65 cm or more? Why is it that some famous Ramirez instruments for example were 66 cm in the past but today tend to be 65 cm instead?
I would also like to add that as a participant of the Guitoberfest which just came to an end – it was a wonderful learning experience! True, making the video recordings was new and challenging but I think we all realise now how valuable a learning tool self-recording can be. I look forward to the course next year.
Best regards,
Linda
