Thank you Simon for a wonderful August CGC Show. The topics were timely and interesting. It was great to review the unusual time signatures and also to hear the ideas of how to move repertoire to a performance stage. Good ideas all! However, I didn’t hear thoughts on should we offer constructive criticism to fellow members. One thought on that …having attended various guitar academies such as the GFA and others, it’s been interesting to note that various instructors will offer differing ideas from each other on the same spots of the same pieces. Therefore, for myself, I would really hesitate to offer constructive criticism to anyone for that reason. If I noted something that might cause physical damage to their hands or something of that sort, I would suggest they consult a professional instructor for advice. An instructor I had when I first started classical guitar told me that his mission statement was “do no harm”! And is the constructive criticism harmful or helpful? I think the answer would depend on the individual on the receiving end. Your thoughts on this topic would be most worthwhile.
Fantastic Simon and thanks. Really great summary and I love your points on thoughtfulness. Bang on.

Such great topics! I especially appreciated your insights on giving constructive criticism, summing it up with an easy way to remember the process: be thoughtful and empathetic.
