We are excited to announce our final guest artist for the CGC Summer School 2025: Thomas Flippin!

Thomas is a brilliant composer, concert guitarist, teacher, duo partner, and plays not only guitar (including electric guitar) but also banjo and even theorbo! Now the Guitar Department Head at Diller-Quaile School of Music in Manhattan, Thomas has studied composition with Martin Bresnick, David Lang, and Michelle McQuade DeWhirst; and guitar with Denis Azabagic, Julie Goldberg, and Ben Verdery.

As a composer he has published numerous works both for solo guitar and guitar ensemble. He has commissioned works for the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society, the Guitar Foundation of America, and recently a joint commission for Julliard, the New York Philharmonic, and the American Composers Forum.

In his duo with partner Chris Mallett, Duo Noire, Thomas has recorded Night Triptych and premiered the piece “Held Together” by Grammy-award-winning composer Nathalie Joachim.

Thomas has recently been touring a new double concerto for classical guitar and blues guitar written by Chris Brubeck. Check out Thomas playing his own composition American Soul in the video below:
